This is not your average farm

Vana Care has teamed up with Andrew "Cosi" Costello from South Aussie With Cosi to create something genuinely special for NDIS participants in South Australia.

Located on Cosi's own property just outside Adelaide, this place feels closer to a small Monarto than a typical farm. The animals live well, the land is looked after, and the whole property has been set up as a space where people can connect with nature in a hands-on, meaningful way.

Secondly, participants will be involved in the feeding and daily care of a range of animals, including everything you would expect to see on a farm like pigs, sheep, cows, chickens and horses, through to animals you would not expect to see on a farm including ostriches, American bison, miniature ponies, miniature donkeys and more.

You'll be supported the whole time by Vana Care's experienced disability support workers, all of whom have farm-specific training so they know exactly how to help you get the most out of every visit.

A supported day on a real farm

Every visit is tailored to your interests, your pace and your goals. Here's what a day on the farm can look like.

🐾

Animal Care

Help feed the animals, fill water troughs, check on the paddocks and spend time getting to know the farm's residents. It's hands-on, it's calming, and for a lot of people, it's the highlight of the day.

🌿

Veggie Garden

Get your hands in the soil. Planting, watering, weeding, picking. The veggie garden is a great place to slow down, learn something practical and see the results of your effort over time.

β˜€οΈ

Outdoor Activities

Fresh air, open space and time away from screens. Walk the property, help with light farm tasks or simply enjoy being outdoors in a safe, supported setting.

🧭

Routine and Structure

The farm runs on a rhythm. Morning feeds, garden checks, afternoon rounds. That natural structure gives the day shape and helps build a sense of purpose and responsibility.

🀝

Social Connection

Meet other participants, get to know the support team, and share experiences in a relaxed outdoor setting. The farm is a great place to build friendships naturally.

πŸ’‘

Practical Life Skills

Every visit builds real skills you can take with you. Following instructions, keeping to a routine, solving problems on the go and working alongside others. It all adds up.

What a day on the farm might look like

Every visit is tailored to your goals and passions, so no two days look exactly the same. But here's an idea of how a typical day on the farm might flow.

  • Arrive and settle in Meet your support worker, say hello to the animals and get your bearings.
  • Morning animal rounds Help with feeding, check water levels, visit the paddocks and spend time with the animals.
  • Veggie garden time Head to the garden for planting, picking or watering. Hands in the dirt, sun on your back.
  • Break and recharge Take a breather, have a drink, chat with the group. No rush.
  • Afternoon activities Light farm tasks, a walk around the property, or just enjoying the space at your own pace.
  • Wrap up and head home Pack up, say goodbye to the animals and head home with a story or two.
