Supported Independent Living Guides

Everything you need to know about NDIS Supported Independent Living in Adelaide, from understanding what SIL means to choosing the right provider.

What does SIL stand for?

SIL is Supported Independent Living. It is NDIS funding for help with daily tasks in your own home, designed for people who need ongoing support to live independently. Support can range from drop-in visits to 24/7 assistance, including overnight support.

SIL versus SDA: what is the difference?

SIL pays for the people who support you. SDA, or Specialist Disability Accommodation, pays for specially designed housing for people with very high physical support needs. Some people have both in their plans, but most SIL participants live in ordinary homes: a share house, a rental, an apartment or the family home.

How SIL funding is decided

The NDIA looks at how much support you need across a normal week, including overnight. Your occupational therapist's assessments and your goals matter here. If you are preparing for a plan review and thinking about SIL, we can help you understand what evidence is useful and what a typical week of support might look like.

Living arrangements that work with SIL

SIL is about living where you choose. That can mean living alone with scheduled support, sharing with housemates who also have SIL funding, or staying in your current home with more backup. The right answer depends on your goals, your funding and what feels like home to you.

Choosing a SIL provider in Adelaide

Ask how the provider handles staff consistency, what happens overnight, how they involve you in choosing your support workers, and how they respond when something is not working. Our approach is simple: your routine, your preferences and your goals set the pace. Read how Vana Care delivers SIL, or talk it through with our team.
